Skills used to cost me 1.1p each before update. I've only got about 10-15 left for a fully unlocked account.

I like the new patch... it usually take more time getting new skill points after lv20 than time to get money... now they only shorten a little time on skill point gathering, and skill cost at max 1k.

Big suggestion: Play sorrow's furnace and DO NOT salvage that crap, sell it. Weapons? Sell it. Only bother keeping gold and purple items for other players. If you have a lot of common material, you can sell 100 of them for 1k.
I made over 5 plat in a few hours, but only gained two skills.
The economy is fine.

ExplosiveBadger, it's pretty simple to make alot of money now. My skill cost was already at 1k and I had only bought 70 skills anyway.
All you have to do is get enough money for keys or find them, then go chest hunting for about 20 minutes. You probably have a 35% likely-hood of getting a superior rune, and if that is a monk rune or Superior Vigor (I've gotten like this) then that is an instant 10-40k = 10-40 skills you can buy.
1k isn't alot of money: Also, you don't really need to buy up all the skills for every character you have, which seems kind of like a luxury in the first place. I suggest buying skills when you are going to use them for PvP or your PvE build, and then, when you have the funds and skill points to spare, buy some to your liking to play around with.
Really, by doing quests you still get about 60-80% of your skills and buying anything but Caps are completely unneccisary.

Interesting.
In one thread, we have people screaming that the grinders are being screwed -- because they can't farm for gold weapons anymore. They're not worth the trouble. Green weapons have overfilled their niche, and killed the economy's demand for gold weapons.
In this thread, you're saying that the casual gamer has been screwed, because he has to spend more of his per-level moneymaking on something that is actually worth his time and money.
I rather think that Anet is working to strike a balance and can't make everyone happy. The two extremes are difficult to make meet, especially when you have an economy that's mixed in with your skill gathering.

Your all dumb and dont realise this is ARENA NETS GAME its not a MONEY GAME! they will do things to stop it being it that!
Stop trying to buy your way to high levels and new skills, using runners and gold, INSTEAD play the game like ARENA NET want and earn your skills by playing thats why they made it easier to earn skills and cost more to make people play the game instead of standing in LA dis one like MORONS selling crap all day.
ARNEA NET cant make people play the game a certain way BUT they are doing things to drive the majority (by making it easier) one way and that way is playing the game.

Just wanted to add my two gold to this thread. I've easily made more money playing around in Sorrow's Furnace in the last two days than I have casually playing many other areas. I actually expect that other areas of the game got a little boost too. I don't have a lot of gold, (by my standards) I have 20-25k saved up at any one time, which gives me enough to splurge every so often and to use when I really need it.
Honestly, just playing around in Sorrow's Furnace, I have seen how effective the gold sinks are, if you go for any of them. I've gained enough gold to buy both of the new 100 use kits (which I'm loving), at least 10 keys (if just Shiverpeak keys, count that at 6k total -600 gold each-) and still keep my gold stash at a healthy 20-25k.
I think the gold sinks are becomming more effective. And I personally have greatly enjoyed the update, and the fact that people are farming the green items. Because, soon enough, those greens will be pretty cheap, generally lowering the costs of golds (and if you really look at it, golds can be much better than greens in certain situations) and together these changes will really cause a raise in the value of gold, making 1 platinum alone mean something again (That new skill you've been wanting) and not be impossible to obtain.
I haven't started a new character, but Anet listed that many of the starting quests have been given gold rewards, which I assume is to help those new players buy some 'novelty' skills to utilize. And the ammount of skill quests in the game pretty much helps you have a solid build in PvE anyway.
As for PvP and skill unlocking: The easiest way to unlock skills now, I feel, is through playing PvP. Faction gains are so much better that it's a very worthwile venture. Use premades if you have to and just play in the random arenas, you'll do fine.

Rather than offer us some form of rational, sane discussion about an aspect of the game that has upset you and purportedly many others, you make the proclamation that Anet has screwed the casual players. Personally I do not know what a casual player is, and would not give myself such a tag, since I am neither someone who plays 3 hours a week, nor someone who plays 12 hours a day and has guild wars logos tattooed on my butt. I am a player of the game. So, making yourself a moral majority in a sub phylum and crying foul because of an update snaffu in the manner that you just did (twice) is not something I think I could possibly take seriously for long, if at all.
I'm sorry badger, but your OP and the one above IS whining, so you should logically expect people to chime in on that theme, and therefore you would be without cause to whine further about the whiners who whined that you were whining. A vicious cycle is abundant, and three right turns bring you back to square one. Again.

The price of vigor & absorption is definitely going to plummet. As they're used up they'll probably never become worthless, but they're not going to be a big fat cash check once the economy adjusts to the fact that they're no longer rare. I'm guessing they'll reach, oh, 3-5K in two weeks.
Insofar as anyone has been 'screwed' it isn't the casual players or even the farmers, it's anyone who is not today rich, but want to get a FoW armor. They'll have a much, much, much, longer way to walk than those who got FoW armors before this update.
Basically what's changed is that it will now be much harder to gain and stockpile money. That's it.
Whether that is a bad thing or not depends on whether you're just starting out and really wanted that FoW armor.

Alright guys, I was waiting for a smartass post by someone who would fall under my catagory of tagging me a whiner. Don't be like him!
As for getting gold I bought a few keyes last night and I found 3 gold items. 1 of them was a Vampiric Summit Hammer which was 4/1 I sold for 16k. Very interesting, I really honestly didn't think anyone would be buying gold items after how common they are now. well I have money for a few skills now thanks for the advice and explanation on the skill costs and etc.
